Qinhu Wetland National Park

Creating a New Awareness

Located in the Yangtze River Delta in the Chinese province of Jiangsu, Qinhu Wetland National Park is a 30-hectare wetland area that is being restored to its natural state according to ecological criteria. TRIAD Berlin developed an experience-oriented visitor center that particularly aims at stimulating the younger generation's understanding and appreciation of sustainability.

area:

4,500 m

On three levels and a total floor space of 4,500 m2, the visitor experience center visualizes the biological and ecological characteristics of wetland areas. The dramaturgy of the exhibition moves from small aspects to the big picture – i.e. from the animals and plants of the Qinhu region to global ecological issues. On their exhibition tour, visitors are symbolically accompanied by a magpie, a bird that represents luck in China and is also featured in the emblem of Qinhu.

China has come to realize that environmental pollution due to rapid urban and industrial growth constitutes a major problem. The visitor experience center of Qinhu Wetland National Park shows new directions in communicating the idea of sustainability as a topic relevant to the future of China and, thus, significantly contributes to a change of thinking in society.
