Expo Pavilion

Urban Planet

"How will people live in the megacities of tomorrow?" This is one of the most pressing questions that China needs to answer. At "Urban Planet", a theme pavilion designed by TRIAD Berlin for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, emotional exhibits and compositions sensitized visitors to this issue. On a total floor space of 12,000 m2, the pavilion drew a striking picture of the consequences of urbanization and showed potential solutions.

Ascending the "Road of Crisis", visitors experienced the dramatic impact of environmental pollution, climate change, and the overexploitation of resources. At the peak of the road, the view opened up on the "Blue Planet" – a fascinating 360° media installation showing spectacular metamorphoses of the globe. The descending "Road of Solutions" provided examples of solutions by presenting selected initiatives, companies, and products. Moreover, visitors learned how their own actions can make a positive difference.

Attracting more than 8 million visitors, the pavilion was among the most successful ones of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and generated massive media coverage. Leading print media dedicated their editorial articles to Urban Planet. The pavilion's huge success resulted in numerous project inquiries and, eventually, the establishment of TRIAD China Ltd.
