Suitcases from Berlin in New York

A Touch of Berlin in the Big Apple

Over a period of several months, the design store of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) presented more than 80 products by Berlin designers at its "Destination: Berlin" sales exhibition. For the kick-off, TRIAD Berlin developed the "Suitcases from Berlin" exhibition that brought an interdisciplinary group of creative ambassadors from Germany to New York.

At the exhibition, ten Berlin artists and creatives presented a suitcase they had previously filled with their favorite design items from Berlin. Among those who had packed a "Suitcase from Berlin" were illustrator Olaf Hajek, DJ Paul van Dyk, product designers Mykita and Zeha, fashion labels Bless and Kaviar Gauche, and the band MIA. On display for one week, the exhibits provided insights into Berlin's vast design scene and, in combination with networking events and activities, promoted the transatlantic exchange of creativity. Klaus Wowereit, Mayor of Berlin, opened the exhibition on "Berlin Day".

Receiving broad media coverage, the event considerably added to Berlin's international reputation as a creative metropolis. Moreover, the exhibition and the campaign helped generate new business.
