Discoveries 2011: Health

The Island of Health

The goal of the "Discoveries 2011: Health" exhibition at Mainau Island was to awaken visitors' spirit of inquiry and thirst for knowledge. TRIAD Berlin developed five pavilions with interactive exhibits as well as an exciting discovery rally for children leading them through all the exhibition pavilions.

The introductory pavilion of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings invited visitors to discover various fields of health research and ways to a healthy future.

At the Boehringer Ingelheim pavilion, numerous exhibits gave visitors the opportunity to venture on an expedition and to learn more about diabetes mellitus. The treasure map of "Sugar Island", a mountain of sugar cubes in the center of the room, inspired visitors to hunt for the "Treasure of the Islets of Langerhans" – also known as insulin.

The pavilion of the German Hygiene Museum was all about hormones and powerful molecules. Fear, anger, happiness, or love – hormones play an important role in all emotions. The central exhibit used nine interactive hemispheres to illustrate how our emotions are governed by our body's hormones.

Our five senses help us stay healthy and live an active life. At the Fraunhofer pavilion, five interactive exhibits presented current projects in the field of sensory research and showed just how important our senses are to our daily lives.

The Weleda pavilion shed light on anthroposophic medicine and how it works. Visitors learned that the rhythms of our body have a direct impact on our thoughts, feelings, and actions. An interactive presentation illustrated the effect of medicinal plants on the human heart and circulatory system, and a heart rate monitor allowed visitors to feel the rhythm of their own body.

At "Discoveries 2011: Health", TRIAD Berlin again managed to awaken the spirit of inquiry and thirst for knowledge of all generations and to convey the objectives of "Mission Education" in a playful manner.
