Berlin: Digitising Europe Initiative 2015

Big Data - Big Event

How do you provide the right setting for a discussion on the topic of Big Data? For the opening session of "digitising europe", TRIAD Berlin developed an event concept with an entirely new type of media features. Together with the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communications, a format was created that allowed for interaction and participation, thus providing a unique experience.

For the first time ever, a software was used that generated graphics live. Analyzing participants' statements, the software listened for specific keywords that initiated a Twitter query. All geotagged Tweets were located via GPS and shown on a map of Europe at the center of the screen. This way, discussions across Europe were visualized.

In an open verbal exchange, Big Data experts Professor Alex "Sandy" Pentland, Director of the MIT Media Lab, and Andrew Keen, author of the bestsellers "The Internet Is Not the Answer" and "Digital Vertigo", discussed the social opportunities and risks associated with the analysis of Big Data.

The conference was a follow-up event to the "digitising europe summit 2014", at which Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel delivered the kick-off speech. TRIAD Berlin's concept is suitable for different types of events and has been used across Europe.
