Blue Planet Berlin Water Dialogues

At the first Blue Planet Berlin Water Dialogues , which took place on May 4th and 5th 2011, about 50 international participants, representing industry, the political sphere, and science, discussed the challenges lying ahead for us as regards how the resource of water, which is both non-duplicable and irreplaceable, can be used for providing food for an ever-increasing number of people living on this planet and for driving the development of national economies forward while still keeping enough water to preserve the environment.

Co-initiated and implemented by Triad Berlin, the interactive event format revolved around the questions of how a sustainable use of water can be achieved and what the diverse consumers and players, meaning companies, governments, science, and society, can contribute in this regard.

The know how generated in earlier projects and the expertise of Triad in the areas of sustainability and urbanization provided the basis for developing a nuanced, interdisciplinary, and future-oriented schedule and for getting participants, speakers, and sponsors involved.

Sponsors of Blue Planet Berlin Water Dialogues 2011 were the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Women’s Issues and the German Federal Ministry for Environment. Siemens Industry, Bayer Crop Science, Grontmij and Cisco had been solicited as founding partners. Messe Berlin served as organizer and provided the Blue Planet Berlin Water Dialogues with an ideal venue: Marshall House on the Berlin exhibition site. Furthermore, participants were able to make use of the offerings of the trade fair “Water Berlin”, which took place in parallel.
