The DFB Fußballmuseum gGmbH foundation commissioned Triad Berlin Projektgesellschaft mbH as the planning agency for the creative and scenographical realization of the German Soccer Federation’s soccer museum in Dortmund. The Berlin-based communications agency won the bid against 26 competitors from all over Europe and will now develop the exhibition in terms of form, content, mis-en-scéne and dramaturgy in cooperation with the museum foundation.
Located on a lot of 6,000 square meters in central Dortmund, the DFB soccer museum is expected to open in 2014. It will present German soccer in its uniqueness, emotionality, and impact as an international phenomenon. The project is supported by the German Soccer Federation and the City of Dortmund. The experience-based exhibition will provide a permanent public arena for soccer in both its historical and contemporary dimension. The clear and intelligible structure of the exhibition will convey the various themes connected with soccer and its complex social, cultural, and economic effects.
Dramaturgically, the exhibition uses the format of the soccer game itself and thus creates a clear structure for an emotional presentation of the phenomenon that is soccer. There will be five areas – “Before the Game” (Emotional Warm-up), “1st Half” (The World of National Teams and German Soccer), “Half-Time” (Trainers and Tactics), “2nd Half” (The World of Soccer Clubs), and “After the Game” (Play Area) – in which visitors can experience the world of soccer in all its variety by means of technologically innovative as well as classical presentation formats. A multivision show about the history of soccer, a treasury with the most precious trophies of the German national team and of German soccer clubs, as well as a “Hall of Fame” for the biggest German players will present further scenographical and emotional highlights.
Yet, the museum will not only be a place of preservation and presentation; it shall also serve as a lively forum for encounters and conversations for all members of the football family, for fans and clubs, for associations, for friends and supporters, for partners and sponsors. In order to facilitate this function of the museum, there will be a specific event space designated for award ceremonies, press conferences, readings, TV-productions, and the like.
