At the request of Nord Stream AG, the construction site of the compressor station in Portovaya, four hours north of St. Petersburg, was devised as the location of the event. For the festivities a tent city was erected on an area of more 4000 m2.
The event location was erected in very little time and included the main event tent as well as a dinner tent, a press centre with satellite connection, several VIP tents, conference rooms, extensive security control systems, and various additional spaces like kitchens and offices.
Celebrating the Start of Construction
On behalf of Nord Stream AG, Triad Berlin developed and realised festivities celebrating the commencement of the Nord Stream Pipeline on April 8 and 9, 2010. Among the guests were the Russian President Dmitri Medwedew, the Chairman of the Nord Stream Shareholder Committee and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger, and 250 high-ranking business representatives and politicians from all over Europe, including several ambassadors and their delegations.
In addition, some 100 representatives of the European press were present. The event was broadcast live by several European TV stations and received coverage in the evening news of all major European networks.

High End Performance in the Middle of Nowhere
270° of Intense Experience
The event culminated in the festive ceremony of the symbolical welding of two pipeline segments. After the helicopter with the Russian President had landed, visitors gathered in the ceremony tent, surrounded by a 270° screen. A three-minute panoramic projection presented the central challenges of the project.
The ceremony continued with speeches by Dmitri Medwedew, Gerhard Schröder, and Günther Oettinger, as well as a video address by Chancellor Angela Merkel. Subsequently, two Russian workers ceremonially welded the first two pipeline segments, which represented the Russian the European pipeline network. Dmitri Medwedew concluded the ceremony by applying a plaque to the pipeline and writing onto it his congratulations: „Удачи!“

Scope of Services
Apart from developing and producing the ceremony at the construction site in Portovaya, which included the entire architecture and all related crafts, Triad was responsible for the conception and realization of press workshops and evening events for guests and press representatives on the eve of the ceremony, for the evening event in St. Petersburg after the ceremony, for the entire guest and press management and all transfers by bus and helicopter.
