Europa-Park attraction: Experience Energy

At Germany’s biggest amusement park, Europa-Park Rust, Triad Berlin developed an interactive theme world for GAZPROM Germania named “Experience Energy.” GAZPROM is a cooperation partner of the Europa-Park and sponsors its main attraction, the new catapult rollercoaster “blue fire Megacoaster.”
In the newly built event and information hall right next to the rollercoaster, visitors can experience an exhibition about natural gas, a major energy source. The exhibition includes multisensual 360° movie theatres, a virtual race through the pipeline, a high-tech photo station, and more. Already while standing in line for the Megacoaster, visitors can experience with all their senses how natural gas is produced, transported, and used. Various interactions offer entertainment for everyone and tell stories about natural gas at the same time. The GAZPROM theme world employs the latest technologies and makes energy an experience for all the senses. Its extraordinary edutainment formats creates a new benchmark for entertainment in the Europa-Park and opens new roads in brand communications.

Design

A graphic ribbon runs across the entire hall and builds three large rotundas, which serve as light-proof spaces for 360° projections and also spatially subdivide the queuing area. At the same time, the rotundas screen the hospitality area from the rollercoaster launch pad and the queuing area. With their huge graphics, they dominate the atmosphere of the whole space. Within eyeshot of the hospitality area, there are various interactive installations that visually take up the circular form of a pipeline section; this setup allows for parents who are seated in the hospitality area to keep an eye on their playing children. Moreover, the hall is created as an open space in which events can be hosted. An illuminated brand logo on the outside of the hall attracts attention from a distance.

“Experience Energy" in 360° Multimedia Cinemas

Visitors to the GAZPROM theme world and those waiting in line for the Megacoaster can  “Experience Energy” in three multimedia cinemas with all their sense. 360° projections tell stories of finding, producing, transporting, and using fossil natural gas. The adventure starts in snowy Siberia. Visitors follow the drill deep into the frozen ground, feeling the vibrations when they break through the layers of earth, until they reach the gas reservoir. They can visually and physically experience how natural gas is produced in the midst of the tempestuous sea and transported across long distances, in order for us to be able to use it at home for cooking and heating. The 360° films are projected onto screens of 2,5 m height and 18 m length and have been created entirely with digitally produced images, so-called Computer Generated Images (CGI), as well as with accentuating motion graphics that present additional information. Dynamic surround sound and special effects like wind and spray create a multisensory experience.

Interactions

The GAZPROM theme world offers interactive entertainment for everyone. In a virtual pipeline race, visitors can practice their coordination skills. At a photo station, they can network with their friends. A huge football table provides for action and lots of exercise, and the GAZPROM Game asks for quick thinking.

Pipeline Race

High speed through the pipeline, from Siberia to Rust: Two interactive exhibits bring this dream to life. Visitors can engage in a virtual race, steering their vehicle with the aid of a pivoting stool, called the “Swopper.” In specifically marked areas, they can speed up and overtake their competitors in dexterous manoeuvres. During their race, players can enjoy the view of Moscow or the fauna of the Baltic Sea through transparent sections of the pipeline.

From Moscow with Love

At a photo station with state of the art laser-based motion control, visitors can have their picture taken in Siberia, Moscow, or other surroundings and then send their pictures as eCard greetings to their friends. And those who don’t dare to ride the “blue fire Megacoaster” can pretend they did. Moreover, visitors can collect their eCards in a virtual visitors’ book and rate other cards.

GAZPROM Game

In the GAZPROM Game, visitors can build a pipeline from Russia to Germany. In order to do this, they have to answer all kinds of questions about natural gas as quickly as possible. Those who can answer all the questions most quickly have the opportunity of winning a trip to Russia. Participants with fewer points can also win attractive prizes. Visitors can play the GAZPROM Game by uploading the game to their cell phones via Bluetooth or SMS, or by using the terminal on site.
