Humboldt-Box

The Humboldt Box is to serve as a temporary information pavilion for the duration of at least five years with the purpose of informing the public about the construction progress and future use of the Humboldt Forum. The Humbolft Forum will serve as, amongst others, the home of the Ethnological Museum. The joint proposal by Triad Berlin and KSP Engel Architects for the construction and operation of the Humboldt-Box on the Schlossplatz in Berlin-Mitte was narrowly defeated by the winning proposal. Its golden, animated coat resembles a kind of treasure chamber informing about indigenous cultures from all continents. The broad staircase invites the visitors to get a glimpse of the both the unique ethnological collections home to Berlin and with the architectural and construction plans of the Humboldt Forum. Especially at night, the box appears like a floating, radiant golden treasure.
