Prof. Lutz Engelke

Managing Partner and Founder of Triad Berlin Projektgesellschaft mbH

Born in 1956 in the Ruhr area, Lutz Engelke brought together diverse approaches in his professional development. He studied literature, psychology, film, and journalism at Freie Universität Berlin and at Cornell University (on a Fulbright Fellowship). He was spokesman for the Berlin Senate for three years; subsequently, he founded the creative agency Triad Berlin in 1994. Today, Triad brings together up to 120 professionals of different cultural backgrounds, trainings, and ages.

With the members of his company, Lutz Engelke has been designing and producing award-winning themed spaces and experience spaces, Expo pavilions, exhibitions, brand centers, company showrooms, and events. “Happy End,” the Zürich insurance’s pavilion at the Swiss National Expo in Biel in 2002 (1.1 million visitors) counts among Triad’s many projects, just as “Planet m,” the Bertelsmann company pavilion at EXPO 2000 in Hannover (1.4 million visitors), and “The Dream of Vision,” an exhibition about the cultural history of German television, as well as international benchmark projects like the DHL Innovation Center and the Dr. Oetker Brand World.

As artistic director, Lutz Engelke has significantly contributed to the success of the Chinese theme pavilion “Urban Planet” (8.2 million visitors) at the 2010 Expo in Shanghai. The spectacular design of the pavilion and the intercultural competencies it proved gained Triad numerous new contracts on the Chinese market.

Currently, Lutz Engelke and his team are developing a science center in Saudi Arabia (Prince Salman Science Oasis) and the new German soccer sanctuary, the DFB soccer museum in Dortmund. Especially this last project is a dream come true for Lutz Engelke, who is an avid soccer fan.

Moreover, Lutz Engelke is Professor at the Design Department of FH Potsdam, he is co-founder of the “Create Berlin” initiative, which attracts international attention to Berlin as a creative capital, he is a member of the Art Directors Club Deutschland and of the Urban Age Group of the Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft (Deutsche Bank), as well as a participant of the European-Chinese cultural dialogue that has been initiated by EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture).

In his leisure time, Lutz Engelke enjoys music and literature, plays soccer, and is just as curious as his company, Triad.
His motto is “… dare to imagine more…”
